Arriving by air

The Zurich Flughafen is a short distance from the conference venue and the city center. To travel from the airport to ETH or the city centre, you have several options ...

Public Transportation

Train and tram service offer quick and easy access to the city from the airport train station, located across from Terminal 2 at the Airport. Zurich Cards are available at the airport information desk in the Arrivals lounge, which give you unlimited travel for your choice of 24 or 72 hours, plus free entrance to most of the city's museums. Alternatively, you may purchase regular tickets at the machines located at the top of the escalators down to the train platforms (you will need a 3-zone pass to get to the city; the code for Zurich is "8000"). Visit the SBB website for a schedule of trains to and from the airport.

A ZVV card for Zones 10 and 21 is included in the conference registration package. This card is valid for local public transportation between the airport and the city centre, and within the city centre from July 17 – 20, 2013 inclusive.

To the city center
The airport train station is underground, in the building opposite of terminal 2. Just follow the train signs once you leave the Arrivals lounge. Take any train or S-Bahn to "Zurich HB"; trains going into the city leave from platforms 3 and 4. As some trains may stop at intermediate stations, listen for "Zurich Hauptbahnhof" to be called. Trains to the city operate daily from 05:00 to past midnight, departing every 10 minutes at peak times. From the city centre, you may continue to use your train ticket to take a tram to your hotel or to ETH campus.
Journey time: 10 minutes

To ETH Zurich main campus and ECC13 conference venue
The airport tram stop is at ground level, outside the building opposite of terminal 2. Just follow the train/bus signs once you leave the Arrivals lounge. Take tram no. 10 (direction Bahnhofplatz/HB) to tram stop "ETH/Universitätsspital". The trams from the airport into the city run from 05.00 to 00:40 and from 05:00 to 00:15 in the opposite direction.
Journey time: 30 minutes

Hotel Shuttle Bus

Many hotels have their own shuttle service, sometimes free to hotel guests, so ask your hotel when you make reservations. Shuttle information is also available at the airport information desk in the Arrivals lounge. Hotel buses pick up guests in front of Arrival 1 and 2.

Taxi

The airport taxi stand is located in front of Arrivals 1 and 2. A taxi ride from Zurich Airport to Zurich city centre costs approximately CHF 60.

Rental Car

We do not recommend renting a car for your stay in Zurich. Because parking in the city and near ETH campus is limited and expensive, and large portions of the city's Old Town and commercial districts are off-limits to cars, we do not recommend you rent a car for your stay. Should you nonetheless choose to do so, we recommend that you check in advance to make sure your hotel offers guest parking.

The airport rental car centre is located in Airport Shopping (level 1), offering rentals from Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National/Alamo and Sixt.
